What can one say about social media that hasn’t already been said? It would certainly appear to be the biggest game changer of the Internet area and possibly modern day marketing. The likes of Facebook, twitter and Instagram are revolutionising the way we engage with brands and share our experiences, and while technophobes caution us about data privacy issues and Big Brother intrusion, it would be difficult to argue against its inclusion in the modern day communications mix. Such is its pervasiveness, it’s hard to imagine a world without social media, or a time before it, much like the ATM or mobile phone. As a business, you may not understand it, or have time to give it, but if you need to talk to your customers, you don’t really have a choice. The social media train has left the station, and if you weren’t on board, you better run after it, before it’s too late.
