Carlow College

Project overview

Carlow College, St. Patrick’s, is Ireland’s second oldest university-level institution. Founded in 1782, it has a distinguished history as a college of teaching and research in the Humanities. Situated on its own grounds in the centre of Carlow town, the college has an old-world charm and warm nurturing environment. It is also very well connected and has close ties with several universities in the United States and Trinity College in Dublin.

Anyhow, they approached us a few months ago after we were recommended to them by a mutual acquaintance. We hit it off straight away. They were very enthusiastic and ambitious, yet approachable and down to earth and (a bit like us). They also had a definite objective and deadline, which was music to our ears (work is so much easier when there’s a clear goal and timeline).

They didn’t want to change the crest in their original logo because of its historical significance, but they were open to suggestion on the colour and typography. The result was a general refreshment as opposed to a complete reinvention. We introduced a new palette and font suite and realigned their brand guidelines (which had lost their way in recent years).

We also had a look at their brand story as we felt they weren’t ‘shouting’ enough about their key selling points. In fact, we often remarked during the project how Carlow College was a ‘hidden gem’ among Ireland’s third level establishments. It’s why we came up with the line ‘think beyond’ for students in search of something a little bit different to the mainstream colleges. We also came up with the line ‘Imagine. Engage. Inspire.’

We worked with Passion for Creative on a brand refresh and new website. Their creative solutions and responsiveness to timelines were impressive. Traffic to our site has improved hugely in such a short space of time. The team at Passion are always friendly, helpful and each bring their own area of expertise. It has been a great experience working with them and I look forward to working with the team into the future.
