Blackwater Distillery

Project overview

Blackwater Distillery is situated on the banks of the Blackwater River, just outside Cappoquin in beautiful west Waterford. We have been working with them since they first set up in 2013. We designed their brand identity and all their marketing collateral, including labels, leaflets, merchandise and website. It’s been great sharing the journey with them, watching them grow from humble beginnings to international acclaim.

As well as designing the website, we’ve also designed the labels for all their products, including Blackwater No. 5, Boyle’s Gin, Tow Path Gin, Dolmen Poitín and Barry’s Tea Gin.

Boyle’s Gin was a collaboration with Aldi and named after Robert Boyle, the famous alchemist and founding father of modern chemistry, who was born in Lismore Castle, not far from where the gin is now distilled. It was only launched a few weeks when it won ’Best Irish Gin’ at the Irish Whiskey Awards.

Barry’s Tea Gin was another collaboration, this time with an iconic Irish brand – Barry’s Tea (naturally). The partnership has proven very successful and is a great example of how unlikely partnerships can form and work very well.

In the client's own words

As we'll be sharing shelf space with multi-national gins and whiskies, we needed very strong branding to quickly get our story across to customers. Passion were great at wrangling our ideas, knocking them into shape and adding their own sprinkle of magic dust. Ours is an on-going story and we look forward to working with the team at Passion in the months and years ahead.
